Healthcare Fair-February 4

agl:pagetitle

(openPR) - Hundreds of residents who live in the remote communities of southwest Nicaragua will receive free healthcare at the Roberto Clemente Health Clinic’s Annual Health Care Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, in Limon 1 Tola, Rivas, Nicaragua.

A team of more than 30 medical professionals from Nicaragua and the United States are volunteering their services to provide health check ups, preventive medical care, eye and dental exams and other screenings for the men, women and children that the clinic serves.

The Roberto Clemente Health Clinic provides free and low-cost health services to the local community, including emergency and primary care, low cost dentistry and laboratory services, internal surgeries in certain trauma cases, and ambulance service to the nearest hospital when more advanced medical attention is needed. Last year, the clinic began holding on-call hours, allowing patients to have access to medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Welcome to our Health Clinic in Nicaragua

The Roberto Clemente Health Clinic serves as a positive agent for change by saving lives, improving health, and fulfilling the promise of medicine for those most in need. We are located in a very remote area in Tola, Nicaragua and see approximately 9,000 patients per year, and your contributions are vital to the continued success of our efforts.  While it may be hard to imagine the impact your financial contribution may have to such a distant community, every donation helps.  Whether it’s $5, $50, $500 or $5,000, please use this form to make your donation.

Donating only takes a minute, but will have a long-lasting effect on the people of Nicaragua.

You can also volunteer abroad with us and enjoy a nice vacation and do some social work in our clinic. Volunteer in Nicaragua is very easy and while medical volunteers and public health volunteers are very much in demand, you do not necessarily need to be in the healthcare sector. There are numerous volunteer opportunities abroad for social workers, students, teachers, lawyers, healthcare social workers, etc. If you are looking for an international volunteer experience and wish to make a positive contribution to humanity, there is no better place to gain volunteer experience than at the Roberto Clemente Health Clinic.

We constantly welcome volunteers who come to practice what they’ve learned in medical schools, doctors and specialists who come to treat patients with special illnesses and many more people who are not medically trained, but just want to help us with our public health care mission.

NOW YOU CAN SPONSOR A CHILD

Through our new program, you can easily become Un Padrino” of one or several children in southwest Nicaragua and help a whole community get out of poverty.

Carlos Adam Jimenez is one of 23 children we have selected who are waiting to find a sponsor. For about a $50 a month, you can give her a chance to escape poverty by providing her with some of life's basic needs. Click Here for more information.

Now please enjoy this video clip from our founder and Chair to the board Julia Guth, who has been working tireless to make this dream a reality.

Volunteer Program Overseas Nicaragua - Feria de Salud

We are approaching the time of year for the annual "Feria de Salud"-- at the Roberto Clemente Clinic. This year it is set to take place on February 4th, 2012. We are looking for doctors and nurses, and possibly other health care practitioners to help with the fair. We are in need of physicians and/ or nurse practitioners/physician assistants who can see patients, and give consultations and medicine, as well as nurses who can work various stations, such as a diabetes station where we can check blood sugars and give basic education on diet. We will also have a general health education area where patients can browse a broad number of topics on nutrition, exercise, sanitation, immunizations, etc.

In particular we are seeking Family Practitioners or Internal Medicine physicians, Pediatricians, Obstetrician/Gynecologists, Dentists, and Pharmacists. We need approximately 7 -10 nurses who can organize and run health education stations and help with taking vital signs and keeping the patient flow moving in the right direction. In addition, we are looking into ultrasound services and will have an ultrasound technician on site.

Last year we had over 600 people attend and it was quite a successful event! We had a surprise visit from Roberto Clemente Junior, several local school marching bands performed, and we had ongoing games of soccer and baseball which kept kids of all ages busy. A Piñata and art activities added to a very festive atmosphere.

If you think that you might be interested in volunteering or participating in this wonderful event, please contact Juan Muñoz at 410-777-8626 ET or Barbara Jordan at 408-903-3645 PT.

We are also accepting medical or nursing students that could help with some of these tasks.

We hope to hear from you soon,

Saludos,

Barbara Jordan PA, NP
