(openPR) - Hundreds of residents who live in the remote communities of southwest Nicaragua will receive free healthcare at the Roberto Clemente Health Clinic’s Annual Health Care Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, in Limon 1 Tola, Rivas, Nicaragua.

A team of more than 30 medical professionals from Nicaragua and the United States are volunteering their services to provide health check ups, preventive medical care, eye and dental exams and other screenings for the men, women and children that the clinic serves.

The Roberto Clemente Health Clinic provides free and low-cost health services to the local community, including emergency and primary care, low cost dentistry and laboratory services, internal surgeries in certain trauma cases, and ambulance service to the nearest hospital when more advanced medical attention is needed. Last year, the clinic began holding on-call hours, allowing patients to have access to medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Volunteer Abroad Program: Program el padrino report

Dear Padrino,
Buenos dias! We would like to thank you for being part of our program. Your sponsored child continues his/her studies at the local school. We will have reports about his/her performance very soon.

I was touched to receive all of the reply emails regarding the healthcare report for your child. Yes, it is heartbreaking to find out that many of the children in our program are suffering from anemia, malnutrition and other issues related to lack of food. But with your support, we will continue to address their nutritional needs and improve their health.

We recently provided a considerable amount of food and supplements to the children. Below, you will find the report (PDF file) with photos of the children receiving their bag of food and supplements. We hope this will help compensate for their lack of vitamins and minerals so they can perform well in school.

The other option is that you write a letter, scan it, attach it to an email and send it to me. I will be glad to forward it to our team.

The children are extremely happy that they are receiving uniforms, notebooks, bags and food plus monthly visits to the doctor. Your support is really making a difference!

If you have any ideas on how to improve this program, please let us know. This is our first engagement with this type of program and we want to make sure it is a success.

If you think that one of your friends or family members would be interested in being part of this program, please forward this email to them and explain a little bit about it or send them the link below for more information.

Special Thanks to ‘Raising 4 Ramos’ Fundraiser

The Roberto Clemente Health Clinic thanks Peter Morse and Christina Ramos for raising more than $2,600 for the clinic at their fundraising event on May 28 in San Francisco! Thanks to donations like these, we were able to provide the emergency medical care that Christina needed on a recent trip to Nicaragua. We continue to rely on individual donations to support our efforts to provide free and low-cost medical care to visitors and residents of the isolated villages of Limon and surrounding communities in southwest Nicaragua.
